Let's visit the historic sacred sites registered as a World Heritage Site, "Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range" in 2 days!
This tour will take you to Kumano Sanzan, a collective name for three shrines: Kumano Hongu Taisha in Hongu, Kumano Hayatama Taisha in Shingu, and Kumano Nachi Taisha. While walking along the path used by ascetics and worshipers, feel the long history and majestic nature and scenery, and enjoy the hike in your own way.

This is one of the Kumano Sanzan and is the main shrine of Kumano Shrines nationwide, which was registered as a World Heritage Site in 2004, and is a major sacred place with a majestic shrine building! You can also take photogenic photos at the 33.9m high and 42m wide torii gate "Oyunohara", which is within walking distance from the shrine grounds!

Kumano Hayatama Taisha

Kumano Hayatama Taisha

This is Japan's largest spiritual site, with its mysterious atmosphere and tranquil space surrounded by nature. It has a collection of over 1,000 nationally designated cultural properties. It is also famous for the Gotobiki Rock, which is a symbol of nature worship, and the Nagi tree, which is one of the largest in Japan and is estimated to be 1,000 years old!

Climb up the 467 stone steps leading to Kumano Nachi Taisha Shrine and pass through the torii gate to reach the shrine grounds. From there, you can see the mountains of Nachi.
Nachi, a mysterious place of worship surrounded by nature such as mountains, waterfalls, and forests, has a deep history that is closely connected to the beginning of Japan.

Important notice at Kumanokodo & Kumano Sanzan

  • <Recommended outfits>

    *Please refrain from wearing extremely light clothing.
    1. Shoes for low mountain climbing (trekking shoes, etc.)
    2. Winter clothing (Mountain parkas, rain jackets, windbreakers, etc.)
    3. Rucksack
    4. Gloves, Scarf
    5. Rain jacket
    6. 500ml or more of water, supplementary food (candy, chocolate, pickled plums, etc.)

    *Once you get into the mountains, there are many shady areas. We recommend that you prepare at least one extra piece of clothing that is easy to put on and take off and is not bulky.

  • Most of the roads are narrow, around 1 meter wide, and although some parts have cobblestones and stairs, most are dirt roads in the mountains.
  • When using trekking poles (stocks), please wear a rubber cap (protector) on the tip of the pole. Do not walk in shoes with spikes or hard soles.
  • Fires can occur due to slight carelessness, such as throwing away a cigarette. Be careful when handling fire.
  • If you encounter monkeys or deer, please remain calm and do not make loud noises. Please refrain from causing harm to them.
  • Insects to be careful of include pit vipers, wasps, centipedes, mites, and leeches. Please do not veer off the path into the forest and wear clothing that does not expose your skin, even in summer.

How to pick strawberries

Handle the strawberry gently and do not pull it by force.
Pinch the stem part connected to the strawberry, hold the strawberry gently, and pull it as if twisting it 90 degrees to easily remove it.
*Please be sure to eat the strawberries that you touch with your hands.

How to eat strawberries

Eat the whole strawberry after removing the stem, and discard only the green part of the stem in the cup (Please help us separate garbage.)
All of the picked strawberries have to be eaten, and they are not allowed to be taken off the farm.
