Sumo Tournament

Sumo is Japan's national sport. A sumo tournament called "Honbasho (Main match)" is held six times a year.
The matches on the dohyo ring are very impressive. The sound of the Sumo wrestlers' bodies colliding echoes throughout the hall. The rules of sumo are very simple: the person who steps outside the circle or whose part other than their feet touches the floor loses.
Although the rules are simple, there are 82 techniques. Please pay attention to the techniques that are performed by their well-trained bodies.

Interpreter Support

This tour includes an English-speaking guide support during the Sumo tournament viewing.
It is much more interesting to watch the Sumo tournament if you understand the rule, techniques, and any information in English instead of Japanese.

This museum is a base for preserving the unique traditional culture of Japanese swords and disseminating Japanese swords to the world.
There are many famous swords and armors on display, and you can see up close their high level of skill and artistry.
There is also a place where you can learn about how to make Japanese swords and their history, so even first-timers can enjoy learning.

Danpatsushiki (Retirement & Hair-Cutting Ceremony)

A once-in-a-lifetime ceremony celebrating the final chapter of a sumo wrestler's career.

The danbatsushiki (retirement & hair-cutting ceremony) is a traditional Sumo ritual held when a wrestler retires from active competition. During the ceremony on the dohyo, supporters and loved ones take turns making a small cut into the wrestler’s topknot (chonmage), before the stablemaster makes the final cut to officially sever it and mark the end of the wrestler’s career. Many may have seen this powerful and touching moment in movies or documentaries, but experiencing it live is a truly unforgettable event.

Topknot-Cutting Experience

Limited to 100 guests on the day, you will have the chance to experience the "Hasami-ire" ceremony by cutting the wrestler's topknot. This is an exclusive opportunity typically reserved only for sumo insiders.

Everyone is welcome to participate, regardless of gender. Experience Japanese traditional culture not as a spectator, but as an active participant, and create an unforgettable moment.

Former Makuuchi wrestler Hidenoumi

About Hidenoumi.Reaching the Makuuchi division, a position held by only a handful of 42 wrestlers in all of sumo, he has a long and impressive track record of competing at the highest level.
Specializing in traditional style by gripping his opponent’s mawashi, he is renowned for his powerful yet graceful, highly captivating matches.
He is the elder brother of Tobizaru, who is immensely popular with international fans under his nickname the "Flying Monkey," and holds deep respect as the older half of a legendary sumo duo.
Having fought on the dohyo for over 10 years, he is a seasoned veteran who overcame injuries and countless setbacks through sheer strength of spirit.

Etiquette when watching the Sumo tournament Take off your shoes. It is not permitted to sit beyond the seat partition, or to enter or move to adjacent seats. Any behaviors that interfere with the Sumo tournament or other spectators are prohibited: using smartphones, moving or standing up during the tournament, etc. The organizer will not be held responsible for any damage caused by not following the organizer's instructions or due to its own negligence. The same shall apply to subsequent compensation. Cheering with large banners or musical instruments (trumpets, drums, flutes, hardware) is not allowed. Please use cheering goods that fit within the width of your seat. Each cheering banner or message board must be held up by one person. (Items brought by two or more people are considered prohibited items.) The contents of small flags, banners, and message boards are limited to those that cheer sumo and sumo wrestlers. It is prohibited to use any other cheering goods that is deemed to interfere with the progress of the sumo competition or facility management operations, or cause a nuisance to other customers. [Tokyo Sumo Retirement & Hair-Cutting Ceremony Guided Tour] The Danpatsushiki (hair cutting ceremony) is a meaningful ceremony to honor a wrestler’s long career and celebrate the next chapter of his life. As the dohyo (sumo ring) and hanamichi (entryway) are sacred training spaces, entering these areas is strictly prohibited unless authorized. Please follow the guidance of our staff during the tour. In accordance with sumo tradition, female participants will take part from a dedicated stage rather than entering the dohyo. The hair-cutting experience itself is identical for both men and women. During the hair-cutting experience, please take your turn in order and move as smoothly as possible. When touching the topknot, please be gentle and take care not to apply too much pressure. As a large number of guests will be cutting the topknot, the ceremony itself may take some time. Flash photography is strictly prohibited inside the venue. Please set your mobile devices to silent mode during the ceremony. Please keep your personal belongings and valuables with you at all times.
