Kumano Kodo Iseji Route

  • Iseji route, one of the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage routes leading to "Kumano Sanzan" (a set of three shrines, "Kumano Hongu Taisha", "Kumano Hayatama Taisha" and "Kumano Nachi Taisha"), is located in Wakayama. Iseji, which connects to Ise Jingu of Mie, and Kumano Sanzan, has enjoyed popularity since the Edo Period as a route taken by pilgrims that were headed towards Kumano Sanzan after visiting Ise Jingu.
